Does jiu-jitsu make you weird?

Don't know if it's just me but tonight in training I got kneed in the head and eye-gouged and I love it.

I don't think there are many things in life which feel better than getting home after training, tired and sweaty, covered in gi burns, bumps and bruises and getting in to a really hot shower.

Is this weird??

  1. Haha how did you get kneed in the head? I don't know if its weird but I'm the same when feeling bashed up and going in a hot shower feels relaxing but hard to get out.

    1. Passing the guard of a really flexible dude... legs and knees flying all over the place!

  2. Erm it doesn't make you 'normal' if that helps ;)

    1. Haha, who wants to be normal though? :)

  3. I think that everyone that sticks with BJJ long term is a little bit weird, myself included. Think about it, who in their right mind would want to put themselves through that sort of a physical beating 2 or 3 times a week.
Not many "normal" people would sign up for that.
You need to be a bit different and I think that helps to make BJJ more interesting. If I see a decent senior grade I know that they have gone through some hard times to get that bit of material round their waist. Nothing is free in this game :)

    1. True, it definitely takes a certain personality trait to enjoy getting your ass kicked multiple times a week!
